As part of SCOR’s new Transformation and Simplification Office, Al leads SCOR’s Agile Coaching center of excellence that will define a SCOR Agile framework, educate the organization on the benefits of Agile values and support the implementation of Agile across the organization.
Before his promotion in 2022, Al as Senior Vice President and Head of Underwriting Innovation for SCOR US led Underwriting Innovation team, a multi-disciplined team that is a driving force behind the company’s value-added services strategy. He oversaw the traditional Facultative Underwriting team, the Velogica team and product (SCOR’s automated underwriting engine), the Data Analytics team (Data Science and Data Engineering) and the Agile Center of Excellence.
Al joined SCOR in 1999 as a programmer/analyst working on reinsurance administration systems. His drive, knowledge, leadership and client service have led to his success and earned him progressively more challenging roles at SCOR. Before being named to lead the Underwriting Innovation team in 2019, Al was managing the Velogica offering for SCOR. His involvement with Velogica started as the technical lead overseeing the development of the tool in 2004 and over the years has included operations, IT and business development responsibilities.
Regardless of his role, Al is passionate about providing servant leadership to self-directed teams in pursuit of a purpose-driven vision. He enjoys solving problems collaboratively and is experienced in bringing these skills to the life insurance market. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a Certified Scrum Professional - Product Owner (CSP-PO) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
